Home is America by Amy Liu

Home is America:
where black men are poached like elephants
and squashed like fruit flies
and bills that crinkle and burn are worth more than the silhouette epoch of life.

Home is America:
where the poor receive therapy at fast food drive-thru’s
and well-off citizens shield their families behind white picket fences
and children bring guns to school to shoot down
hatred & anger & fear.

Home is America:
where i cry in sunken Chinatowns surrounded by bankrupt alleys
and hold mother tight before going out
because i may not return home.
